Approximately 41.9% of the U.S. population is obese according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with 9.2% of individuals having severe obesity. Not only does being obese increase a person’s risk of heart disease, stroke, and certain types of cancer, but it also increases their risk of type 2 diabetes.
As an Obesity & Diabetes Management Instructor, you will have the knowledge needed to work with clients who have either condition or both diabetes and obesity. This begins with understanding the causes behind these conditions and the impact they can have on the client, then applying this information to develop a safe, results-driven exercise program that also offers proper nutritional guidance.
As the American Diabetes Association indicates, getting regular physical activity can help people with diabetes better manage this disease. For those with pre-diabetes, consistent exercise is equally important, sometimes even stopping this condition from developing or getting worse. At the same time, obesity and diabetes can create additional challenges for clients. You can use your training as an Obesity & Diabetes Management Instructor to help them overcome these obstacles, contributing to their fitness and even potentially improving their quality of life overall.
