In the world of fitness, where dedication and determination fuel success, young Zach Wagoner stands out as an inspiring figure. At just 21 years old, Zach has already achieved significant milestones in his journey toward becoming a certified personal trainer, nutritionist, strength and conditioning coach, and fitness coach through the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA). His story is one of passion, commitment, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

Discovering the Transformative Power of Weightlifting

Zach's interest in fitness traces back to his high school days when he discovered the transformative power of weightlifting to enhance his performance as a baseball player.

“I was always smaller than everybody else in baseball,” Zach explained. “When I first got to high school it was either, you start lifting to catch up with the big guys or you fall behind forever.” Once he began weightlifting, he never found the competitive advantage he needed and has never looked back.

Recognizing the importance of staying ahead in his field, Zach made the bold decision to bypass the traditional internship route during his senior year at Webber International University, opting to jumpstart a year earlier.

"I've always wanted to jump ahead, be at the top of my class and all that. So, I started early," says Zach. This early initiative led him to ISSA, where he pursued certifications in personal training, nutrition, strength and conditioning, and fitness coaching.

ISSA Education + Hands-On Experience

Zach's decision to choose ISSA was influenced by a mentor he worked with during his internship, who not only inspired him but also imparted valuable knowledge. The ISSA certification provided the boost he needed to venture into the fitness industry, with the goal of eventually starting his own business.

Currently studying sports performance at Webber International University in Babson Park, Florida, Zach's commitment to fitness education is a testament to his ambition. Zach's journey with ISSA continued with the pursuit of various certifications. Despite initial hesitations about the nutritionist certification, he embraced the challenge, completing the course in a little over a month. His determination and capability were further demonstrated as he swiftly acquired the certifications for strength and conditioning and fitness coaching.

Zach's schedule is a testament to his unwavering commitment. While attending college, he managed to complete multiple ISSA certifications during the summer breaks. The ability to study at his own pace and the practical relevance of the courses allowed him to seamlessly integrate his education with real-world application.

His hands-on experience extends beyond the classroom, with Zach actively coaching clients at Anytime Fitness. His clientele includes a diverse range, from high school athletes to individuals over 65, showcasing his versatility as a trainer.

Vision for the Future

Looking ahead to his graduation from Webber International University in May 2025, Zach envisions opening his own gym. Despite acknowledging the challenges associated with this endeavor, he remains undeterred. "I want to start early because if I got a good jump on it, I would be ahead of everybody else as soon as I graduate," he emphasizes.

Zach's dream involves not just any gym but a space where he can cater to both athletes and the general population. While his heart lies with training athletes, he recognizes the potential for a membership service that accommodates a broader demographic.

Holistic Approach to Fitness Coaching

In his coaching approach, Zach emphasizes the importance of understanding clients on a personal level. Drawing inspiration from his own coach, JJ Morris, he values the relationship beyond the gym, recognizing the impact of factors like home life and diet on an individual's well-being.

"It's very, very personable. You're more than just somebody who's paying him to train you; you're a real person," Zach affirms. This holistic perspective is evident in his coaching style, creating an environment where clients feel understood and supported. His commitment to ongoing learning is reflected in his interest in pursuing a corrective exercise certification in the future.

A Lasting Impact

Zach's online coaching venture expands his reach beyond the physical gym. Leveraging social media and word of mouth, he markets his services, with sponsored initiatives like sponsoring the baseball team at Webber International University. That’s right, he’s developed his personal training business to the point where his business is a sponsor of the team he plays for!

Zach's passion for fitness extends to his family, as evidenced by his twin sister's swift completion of the ISSA Personal Trainer course as well. He acknowledges her resilience and envisions working together in the future, possibly sharing the dream of opening a gym.

Zach Wagoner's story exemplifies the fusion of passion, education, and hands-on experience in the world of fitness. As he navigates the final stages of his academic journey and prepares for a future as a gym owner, Zach remains committed to his goal of making a lasting impact on the lives of those he trains. His story serves as an inspiration to aspiring fitness professionals, reminding them that with dedication and a forward-thinking approach, success is within reach, regardless of age.
